Mary O' Regan
I make functional pottery mostly on the wheel from a shed in my back garden. My background is actually in counselling and youth work and used to teach art as part of this work which is how I learned to make pots. I'm not formally trained in art or ceramics but my mum is a beautiful artist who has always inspired and motivated me to be creative. I love making objects you can touch and feel that brighten up your day when you use them.
I use speckled stoneware that feels earthy and warm and sometimes porcelain for that gorgeous bright white contrast. I like glazing with vivid colours and change colour palettes with the seasons.
I love seeing something I've made with all it's smudges and curves out in the world, at home with someone else.
